“Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
When the Lord restores the fortunes of his people,
let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.”
When it comes to sports in our country we have many people who cheer for teams from various parts of the country, rather than their home town team. I’m a Yankee fan and hear it from my friends and family all the time, “you’re not even from New York!” I merely smile and shrug my shoulders. For as long as I can remember I have always watched and been a huge fan of the way Derek Jeter, the Yankees’ shortstop, plays the game of baseball. Therefore, I have become a Yankee fan.
The same rules apply for the Children of Israel. The Children of Israel are reffered to, many times, as being blessed. In the verse above it says that in the end Israel will rejoice. Does that mean if I don’t live in Israel I will not be able to rejoice with them? No, because when we accept Jesus Christ into our heart as Lord and Savior, we are adopted and converted into a royal preisthood of the Children of Israel. For the Children of Israel refers to those who are faithfully devoted to Jesus Christ. When you allow the Lord into your life, you become a member of the finest “organization” to ever be established.
The Yankees are considered to be one of the finest, if not the finest, organizations in professional sports. Their fans are passionate and consider the Yankees to be “their” team. Even though they have no stock invested into the team. As devoted followers of Christ we can say that we are team members of the Children of Israel, with the investment of our life and soul as the down payment.
So cheer loud and long for the team you can call your own! For in the end we will be rejoicing in the Kingdom of Heaven.
